Warriors, Guardians, Problem Solvers: Defining roles through Problem Based Learning

PSPBL realizes that today’s police agencies face a much greater challenge than ever before. Lessons have been learned from polarizing incidents throughout America, from the Boston Marathon bombing, the unrest in Ferguson and Baltimore, and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and elsewhere, police organizations are being tested, attacked and criticized regularly for excessive militarization to excessive force. Police tactics are under a microscope. There are many causes for this turbulent climate but at the top the list is police training and how police leaders and trainers respond. The focus of 2016’s conference was to provide some answers for trainers and leaders that will clarify police roles in the 21st Century. This included lessons learned from police in the U.S. and abroad, including, responses to crisis incidents, current and new PBL/PTO concepts, emotional intelligence, and other training innovations to address the changing times. Specific topics deal with Police Training Officer programs, Problem Based Learning, Emotional Intelligence, Fair & Impartial Policing, Procedural Justice and Community Unrest De-escalation.
