Planning for Problems: Innovative Training Strategies for Police Agencies

We invite you to join us for the 2014 Annual PSPBL Conference June 10 – 12, 2014 in Concord, California.  This year’s theme will emphasize networking and focus on Problem Based Learning and Police Training Officer facilitation skills.  As a highlight to this year’s conference, Greg Saville and Gerard Cleveland will introduce PTO 2.0, their update to the original PTO National Model.

The Venue

concordphotoFor this year’s conference we return to sunny California in the East Bay’s Diablo Valley city of Concord.  Located just 40 minutes from San Francisco, Concord is an ideal destination for some pre- or post-conference tourism.  With numerous local restaurants, entertainment options, and shopping outlets the Concord/Walnut Creek area is an exceptional place to kick off your summer and enjoy some adult learning!

Our venue hotel is the Crowne Plaza in Concord.  Home to law Enforcement training in Contra Costa County for more than two decades, the friendly staff, beautiful atrium, Vineyards restaurant, and well-appointed rooms, create a welcome environment for law enforcement and educational professionals.  Room rates guaranteed for our event are just $90 (+tax & fees) per night, if reservations are made by May 19, 2014. Please be sure to indicate that you are with the PSPBL Annual Conference group when making your hotel reservation.

Travel to the Venue

Two large airports serve the East Bay area; Oakland International Airport (OAK) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).  We recommend flying into Oakland Airport for it’s convenience and proximity to Concord (an approximately 30 minute drive).  San Francisco Airport is an approximate 60 minute drive to Concord but is also an excellent option.  (Of course, drive times are dependent upon Bay Area traffic patterns. Mid-morning to early afternoons are preferable to commute times.  Weekend traffic is generally lighter than weekday traffic.)  San Jose Airport and Sacramento Airports also serve the Bay Area but they are not recommended for travel to Concord unless combined with tourism plans in the south or north Bay Areas.

Many rental car agencies are available at the airports.  Renting a car is not necessary for the conference, however.  For those interested in shuttling to the hotel from the airport, Super Shuttle service is available and an excellent option.

Conference Registration

Conference registration fees are dependent upon PSPBL membership.  When making your conference registration payment, please be sure to select the correct payment.

We welcome both law enforcement and non-law enforcement educators to our conference.  If you are interested in Problem Based Learning, the Police Training Program, Community Oriented Policing, or adult education in general, you are welcome to attend!

PSPBL Member Conference Registration fee: $325.00
PSPBL Non-Member Conference Registration fee: $375.00

We are also offering a special rate for non-members attending the conference who wish to add an individual Annual PSPBL membership: For an additional $35 you may purchase a membership (this is $15 off the regular Annual Membership fee).

The total for non-member conference registration fee + a conference-special discounted Annual Membership is $410.

Again, please be sure to select the correct payment option when you register.  If you’re unsure about your PSPBL membership status, just ask! Email: info@pspbl.org.  An online form will suffice for your registration information (name, address, email, etc.).

Optional Conference Registration

We recognize that some registrants would prefer to pay by check, or would prefer to save the online processing fees and we’re completely OK with that! (the online fees are not ours).  If you’d prefer to pay by check and register by mail please follow these steps:

  1. Download, complete, and include the Conference Registration Form at this link.
  2. Include your check for the correct amount (you have one of 3 options, spelled out above, dependent upon your status as a PSPBL member – if you’re unsure about your membership status just ask!  Email: info@pspbl.org)
  3. Mail your completed registration form and Registration Fee check to: PSPBL / P.O. Box 362 / Oakley, CA / 94561
  4. Give us a “heads up” to watch for your registration information.  Please email: info@pspbl.org and let us know you’re coming!
